Uniondale, a small town in the Little Karoo, South Africa, came about by the joining of two towns (Hopedale and Lyon) in 1856.
Initially known for its wagon building and ostrich feather industries, which later waned and left a quaint farming town. Uniondale lies next to the Langkloof and is predominantly a sheep, goat, seed and apple farming community.

A variety of activities are on offer in the region such as scenic drives, 4x4 trails, guest farms, agri tourism, hiking trails, game viewing excursions and a rich history. Near De Hoop, just outside Uniondale, there are a number of sites where san rock art can be viewed. Concession hunting is available on some of the farms in the area. The famous Uniondale ghost is another interesting bit of folklore bound to fascinate visitors to the area.
It is also ideally situated to form part of circular tourist routes that include destinations such as Oudtshoorn, Baviaanskloof, Port Elizabeth, Uniondale and George. It is also at the end or start of the popular Route 62 and adjacent to the Langkloof known for it's fruit as well as indigenous flora farms.
Uniondale is linked to Knysna and Plettenberg Bay (a mere 85km away) by the stunningly beautiful Prince Alfred's Pass. The the pass was designed and built by Thomas Baines and still has the original hand packed stone retaining walls |
