Over The Mountain Guest Farm is situated in the hamlet of Herold, at the upper end of the scenic Montagu Pass, in South Africa's Western Cape province. The towns of Oudtshoorn and George are both only half an hour's drive away which makes it an ideal getaway retreat, as well as a great base from which to explore the many wonders of the popular Garden Route and Little Karoo.

Herold is a small town tucked away at the end of the beautiful Montagu Pass near George. The construction of the Montagu Pass in 1847 put Herold on the map. The new pass was built to replace the old Craddock Pass , cutting the traveling time to George drastically. As a result of this the small town of Herold grew rapidly as travelers needed services and a place to stay.

Accommodation for 18 people is available in the Old Post Office and in Emma's house. The old Post Office has been lovingly restored and renovated to provide comfortable accommodation in the four en-suite rooms. All rooms in the old post office have an en-suit bathroom. Furniture is all made on the farm from Blackwood. Oregon pine ceilings + floors yellow wood beams are characteristic features of the buildings. Rooms have separate entrances.
Emma's House
Emma was the mother in law of the once famous landlord Jan Truter. Later on it became the school and principal's house. 3 Bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, kitchen + lounge. Wooden floors and antique furniture are used for interior decorating. The rooms have been furnished as to complement the many of original features that have been retained. The thick walls with their restored Yellow wood and Oregon pine wooden beams, doors, window frames, floors and ceilings are unique features of this accommodation. The furnishings of these rooms have been carefully selected to compliment the charm and atmosphere of the early 20th century. Each room has its own private entrance and verandah overlooking the beautiful and tranquil valley - the ideal spot for a relaxing sundowner.
House of Sin
A love triangle took place about 65 years ago and the old people called it "huis van sonde" (House of Sin). Originally built during the construction of the Montagu Pass , it was build out of stone and mud. It is now restored to its former glory, but with all the modern necessities. The Cottage sleeps 4 people - 1 double bed and 2 single beds, 1 bathroom and shower, small kitchen and braai facilities.
Mrs. Welch
The house known as Mrs. Welch's House features wooden floors and reed ceilings. Hosts 3 en suite bedrooms, a fireplace, kitchen and lounge.
