From the earliest times Strandfontein was a favoured holiday destination where people use to camp next to the sea in their "Matjieshouses".

The first dwelling to be constructed in the area in the early 1900´s was occupied by Sir Richard Fryer and later became the hotel. Just outside Strandfontein you can find the grave of Lady Fryer .

A local farmer has commemorated history and named his Estate wines Fryer's Cove.

Strandfontein is a beautiful sea-side village situated near the mouth of the Olifants River, a mere 350km north from Cape Town.

Many inhabitants from the area have their holiday or retirement homes here. It has long white sandy beaches, clear blue sea and is the crayfish mecca of the local diving community.
