In 1818, Lord Charles Somerset granted the land to Andries Bruyns. In the Deed of Grant was written a clause of condition that there should be no wine house on this land, and to this day no liquor store has been established here. The main road offers many restaurants, coffee shops and shops, which sell everything from everyday necessities to luxury items and kitschy souvenirs.
