Clansthal takes its name from a farm owned there by Bernard Schwikkard, which in turn was the name of his wife’s family home in Hanover, Germany.

Green Point/Clansthal Lighthouse At Clansthal, between Scottburgh and Umkomaas it is also known as the Clansthal Lighthouse. It serves to warn shipping of the presence of the Aliwal Shoal four kms offshore. The building is a national monument.
