The town offers an array of self catering apartments, B&B's, guest lodges and backpackers digs, all perfectly priced for an affordable vacation. Traveling further south, the old South Coast road strings together the hamlets of Doonside, Warner Beach, Winklespruit and Illovo Beach which hug a shoreline of beautiful beaches along the warm Indian Ocean.

Leisure activities centre around the unspoilt beaches, rivers and lagoons. Swimming, surfing and angling top the list and the world renowned scuba-diving site Aliwal Shoal lies just 15 kms south of Amanzimtoti off Umkomaas.

Golf enthusiasts have a virtual menu of courses to choose from. The South Coast, boasting no less than eleven golf courses from Amanzimtoti to the Wild Coast, has been aptly renamed "The Golf Coast" by the South African golfing fraternity.

There are an abundance of restaurants, clubs and pubs to choose from that offer anything from romantic dinners, to kiddies specialities, to a rowdy night on the town. The lifestyle is relaxed, the beer is always cold and the hospitality always warm and welcoming. During the summer holidays, the entire coast comes alive with beach parties, special events, markets, and of course, New Years Eve celebrations from dusk till dawn. Gambling enthusiasts can try their luck at the casinos in Durban or the glitzy Wild Coast Sun hotel.

The growing Eco-tourism industry in the area and the adjacent South Coast offers hiking and walking tours, eco-diving adventures, whale and dolphin watching, as well as eco-adventure sports like white water rafting, abseiling and rock climbing in the Oribi Gorge. The region is also a paradise for bird watching enthusiasts. Among the 386 species recorded, the Knysna Loerie and African Fish Eagle can be seen in the many nature reserves along with small mammals such as wildebeest, zebra and the shy tiny duiker.

Once a year during June/July a unique natural phenomenon, the Sardine Run, takes place in these waters. Millions of these tiny silver fish migrate north along the coast in huge shoals followed by thousands of game fish and sharks.
