An unspoilt area of the Drakensberg and very popular with those who wish to get away from commercial development.
A feature of this mountain reserve is the close proximity of several free standing peaks. The reserve is also noted as a breding ground for the Cape vulture and some 50 pairs nest in the vicinity.
The most prominent peak is Cathkin which almost obscures Monks Cowl and Champagne Castle. The Zulu name is 'Mdedelelo' or 'bully' because of its prominence.
More than 30 walks and hikes will find one for all fitness types. There are also Bushman rock art caves to visit in guided tours. The guides are also available to take tours to traditional homesteads and see the Zulu way of life.
